I have three fish that eat to full strips of Nori every day. Two Moorish Idols and one tang. The one idol seems to primarily eat just the nori...green or red. Sometimes he will eat mysis or ROE, but really just seems to prefer the nori. Is this OK, at least for now?

Yes, and really it sounds like you're doing the right things. Primarily nori, vary the nori type, occasionally something meaty.

I had that same experience with my tangs, they would eat nothing but nori.
One time I got evil and starved them for a day....since then they are now eating anything I offer them

my 2 tangs are the same way, but I will be away for 1 wk and only pellet via auto feeder, hopefully they don't kill each other. I will also add BT trigger and 7 damsels that all eating pellets, this may make the tangs eating pellets

Good idea, if those pellets goes uneaten it would cause a major nitrate spike in your tank and most likely kill them all

Funny, my powder blue tang is so skinny I can see his bones, yet he eats the most. Should I say metabolism???
Like I only have 2 meals a day and I am fat and then I have friends who can eat an entire cow and still have 30" waist without exercising....

Get them eating something like NLS pellets and get some weight on their bones. A skinny fish is not a healthy fish.

Hes not skinny, but he's not as fat as the other one.
I believe he was talking about my tangs...anyhow, I started feeding them 3-4X a day and they got a lot better...Just sold them this morning since I will have to wait on my 180 gal project.
Anyways, here's a picture of him, glad someone with a 180 gal tank decided to adopt him.

I feed a ton of nori. More than any other food. My tangs, Angels, and triggers love it. I also feed a decent amount of pellets and some occasional frozen. Fresh clams from time to time if I'm feeling generous.

It is good, but it doesn't have the nutritional value as mysis. Mysis gives the fish the nutrition they need. For me, do not feed nori all the time. Maybe what you are doing and mysis every other day to three days.

I feed Mysis daily as well, except the big idol doesn't really seem to be eating it, which is why I stuff nori every day.

Also, a good way of feeding idols is to take a PVC pipe and drill small holes into it. Cap and glue one end and cap the other end without glue. Put mysis in there and the idol should eat out of it. I use that method for my copperband.

If your idol picks at rocks, put some mysis on the rock he picks at most and he will eat it. After a little bit, he should recognize it as food.

Interesting, I have not seen that before. Can you post a pic?
