I know that in smaller and even medium sized tanks they tend to kill each off. Would you say it’s worth it keeping a single one for the splash of green? I don’t like C. Viridis so I’ll be going for a Black Axil. Do they have much better colors than C. Viridis?

I have friends who have kept a group of Chromis alive, not just one.

I have one if my 300 gallon. Got him when I bought a bunch of other fish from a local reefer. His splash of green doesn't affect the tank color much, but I love his antics. He is scrappy and is not afraid of his many many times his size, but doesn't bother any other fish.

Oh hey nice to hear from you again! I hope your tank’s doing really well.

If I get a single one I’d much prefer a Black Axil over the Blue-Green, the latter of which I find drab. A Blue Reef or another one of the larger, rarer varieties would be even better but can’t seem to find them where I am. :(

Great seeing you again too!! My tank is doing great, how’s yours? Are you looking for green, teal, or blue? Maybe we can figure out an alternative species that fits your needs if you’re kinda iffy on the chromis.

I had one as a “test” fish. He was part of my first tank, and he survived 3 tank moves since. He’s still around and I don’t really care for it one way or another, but he doesn’t keep me from adding anything I want to the tank, so no reason to get rid of him. They are pretty boring fish though

I’d suggest maybe looking at different wrasse species? There are lots of little ones that would be happy in your tank and may look a little better than a chromis :)

Why not just get a starcki damsel. Reasons being ;
1: easy to identify where theyve came from as Australian specimens have a differently shaped and coloured tail, so you can know they have.most likely not been collected with cyanide, as that seems to be a concern of yours
2: like being the solitary individual of their species
3: in general beautiful
4: bigger than a typical chrysiptera damsel so can handle itself and make a showpiece
5: will be as hardy and as prone to risk of disease as most other damsels, which is generally a low risk.
