I've got 2 Wyoming White Clowns with injuries (almost positive they are anyway). I bought Maracyn at the recommendation of my LFS. He said he was pretty sure it was reef safe. Wanted to double check. I don't have a QT yet but all I would need to get is a HOB filter and it would be good to go. Would there be a prophylactic benefit to treating the tank?

It’s sorta of reef safe at low doses, 12 mg/l to treat Cyanobacteria, but the dose needed for fish is much higher.

Maracyn I is erythromycin and doesn’t really work well for gram negative bacterial infections - those are the ones that almost always follow fish injuries.

You should treat fish bacterial infections with a broad spectrum gram negative antibiotic like neomycin or kanamycin.

This is where I often recommend ruby rally pro as it does take longer to work but safe. Kanaplex is one I recommend in separate tank as its not entirely invert safe as same applies to neoplex which both are kanamyacin and neomyacin.

Thank you everyone. After some thought and risk assessment, I started a QT Tank...which I should have anyway. Going to use the medicine but alone in a smaller tank. Thanks again
