So I've had my 29g up for about 8 months now. I'm starting to get the "add something new" bug. Is there anything interesting I could safely add to the tank? Here's my stocking list now, and everybody is super happy and healthy.

Inhabitants:
-Fire fish
-2 clownfish
-Diamond Goby
-Two emerald crabs
-12~ various snails
-12~ hermit crabs
-Pistol shrimp
-Fire shrimp

Corals:
-Zoas
-Hammer
-Yellow polyps
-Hollywood stunner chalice
-Hydnophora exesa
-GSP

It all depends IMO. I have more in my 29 and all has been well. Weekly water changes and keeping up on everything. Less creatures equals less work to a point.

I like lots of fish. You can tune your filtration to handle it if you need to. That's only 4 fish. IMO not many at all for standard filtration. You just have to be careful of territorial battles, so selection helps.

Your tank could handle a couple more fish of similar size to what you have, but you may experience some serious aggression from your clowns. They've been known to kill new additions in smaller tanks. As far as corals, add to your heart's content. You definitely have plenty of real estate. :)

My friend had a clown pair a firefish a Pygmy angle a purple dotty back and he was about to add the last fish when they all died in 3 days from what he thinks is ich but I said marine velvet. And that was in his 32g biocube

I have a tail spot blenny and a starry blenny in a 29. They do fine together in my case but have one of this type of blenny in a tank is great! So much personality!

I think you should wait before adding more fish , if at all. You have room for lots of corals, on rockscspr ot the sand bed. You are already pretty much done with fishes. I think. Unless you ramp up filtration and water change regime , don't add new fish
My 2 cents

Thanks everyone!

I really don't think I want to add anymore FISH. One, because I don't want to crowd the existing fish, and also because everybody is happy right now and getting along.

I do want some more coral, any suggestions? I want some more color in the tank and I really enjoy things that flow in the water. I've really got a recent liking to Xenia. I love the way they pulse.

I'm also curious about small invertebrates or other livestock that won't prey on or be preyed on by anything else in the tank and would add a little something to watch.

Blushing Finger Leather, Cabbage Leather, Yellow Fiji Leather, and Pipe Organ corals are good choices. As for inverts, I'm a huge fan of giant feather duster worms. Being strictly filter feeders, they're far easier to keep than they're given credit for... IMOPE, anyway. A Red or Tiger-Striped Brittle sea star or Tuxedo urchin would also look nice and add to your CuC. :)

Okay, I gotta get a feather duster. Absolutely beautiful, and I think it'd give some life to my sandbed. I always thought they were more difficult like coco worms

I've never had a coco worm, but I've had at least one feather duster in nearly every sw tank, including my very first. Never did anything special at all for them, either... just put them in and continued my normal fish-feeding and maintenance routines.

Ive got 10 chromis and 1 yellow clown goby in my 25 gallon. Its only filtration is a 12x18" ats screen. Soon going into my 250 system

Id say you could add more.

id call it quits with the fish. but you can always use more corals!!! lol
