Is my Acan ok?

I got my acan about a month ago.

It looked like this when we got it,


It has 3 fullish heads, and a little bit of a head on the front corner.

The next week it started to look happier,


The next week it had to be moved to save it form our turbo snail.



But it looks like the corner head was starting to shrink...

And now today it looks like this,


It looks like the little bit of a head on the corner is completely gone!?!

What could have caused this? Is it ok?


Any help would be great as this is my first acan..

it looks ok .. i mean it has had some tissue recession probably due to when it was fragged but the polyps that are there look pretty decent. Do you feed it?
If not try putting a piece of mysid shrimp in each heads mouth.. it should close around it pretty quickly.

How much light and current do you have on it . i have mine under power compacts and mild current and there doing gr8
how are you Parameters also i have notice that the phosphate levels over 0.5 they start deflating

I feed it San Francisco bay brand brine shrimp, fed it this morning and all 3 heads ate I currently feed it about twice a week.

I feed my moon coral, candy cane coral, and acan all at the same time. All have been eating well.

I think your doing fine then. Just keep plugging away with i.t. Try feeding mysid shrimp its a bit more nutritious then the brine shrimp

Did tests last night, results were:

Salinity: 1.025
pH: 8.3
NO3: 0
PO4: 0
Ca: 420
KH: 11

We have a 29 gallon biocube hqi. We run the stock pump for our current... And we run our MH for 6 hours a day, and have a blue panorama pro we run before and after the MH is on for a total of 12 hour lights on.

Will look into the mysis shrimp.... Does it matter what brand?

I hate to be a downer but I think you are going to lose that frag. I hope I am wrong. It appears in a couple of the pics that the skeleton is pink. If that is the case, I think it is some type of bacterial disease and I have never seen an acan recover from it. I lost about 10 colonies to that a few years ago. The polyps themselves will look fine, and it will even grow on the opposite side from the pink skeleton. But slowely the polyps near the pink area will eject themselves, and the flesh will just let go.

Again I hope its just the pics and not what you have.

There's a little recession but doesn't look debilitating. Should be fine. I'd personally do a dip, shade it for awhile and keep feeding

What kind of a dip do you recommend to use with an acan?

Coralrx is a good dip to use if you think you need it. Dipping in my opinion isn't necessary at this point. That probably should have been done prior to adding it to the tank. PE mysis is very good mysis to feed not only to the acans but as part or your feeding regiment to the fish in the system as well.

Personally I think feeding is going to be key in getting it healthier.

Whew thats good news!!! I agree with feeding it, it really is amazing how positive they react to frequent feedings, especially when they are stressed or newly fragged. Keep it up, should pull thru :smile:

How often should we be feeding our acan? It seems to be receding more... I'm worried.
