so my tanks heater went out dropping my tanks temp about 15 degrees over night (four days ago), all corals recovered except my largest hammer. (zoas, Duncan, one hammer frag, and two hammer colonies) my alk is currently 8.9

I was doing some reading and found a couple people stating that hammers do not like ALK on the higher end. could this be why my hammer isn't coming back around?

new to hobby as well so feel free to tell me im completely wrong lol

i just tested my alk and it's 9.1 and my hammers look totally fine, so i'd go with the temp issue.

my heater went out over the winter and i only really noticed because of the euphyllia all looked upset. for whatever reason i touched the water and sure enough there was my issue, tank was about 70. so i figured the heater situation out and if memory serves they all perked back up that same day.

do you have a picture of the hammer?

From my experience alk is not an issue for euphillias, unless it is a very low nutrient tank. I run a tank at 13 that is mostly euphillias, but it has 20 no3 and .1 PO4. I have low alk tanks (8-9) that are lower in nutrients and they do well in there also. I would say the heater incident made it at little ticked off and all should be well after a few days. Just keep an eye on it and do not make any changes for a bit. Let everything stabilize, and good luck.

After heat malfunction, better colder than hotter. Give it a few weeks to rebound. Sometimes it takes a bit of Patience. I run my all at 13. **** grows like weeds.
