Hey guys,

Below is a pick of my anemone, I’ve had him for about a month. Poor guy just wants to stay in the sand bed. I’ve tried to help him a few ways but I figured I’d just leave him alone at this point.

Below is a picture of him now which it looks like he is pooping but I just want to make sure. He has brown stuff coming out of his mouth. I know anemone can destroy your tank if they die so I would rather an expert tell me.

He was just open and full about an hour ago. No injuries on his foot and none of the fish bother him.

Please let me know.

looks more stressed than pooping. could be expelling zoo

I agree with the stress but it does appear to be pooping. I’ve got one weird nem that looks like it’s about to die before it poops then after it poops it opens back up fully. Not sure why that one does it and not my others. Anything new in the tank or changes in water chem?

No everything has been consistent. Well other than I did change the rock work around yesterday. But it was fine through that process and even up until 2 hours ago. Ever since I got it, it refuses to attach to anything. Just hangs out on that sand bed. I have a bubble tip who is planted and doing well.

Yeah that might be an indicator that it isnt doing well if it wont attach to anything. How long have you had him

How old is the tank?

What kind of nem is it (looks like a BTA)?

How does it usually look?

Had him for about a month. He opens up, eats well, but has never settled down. I’m thinking about using a PVC pipe at this point.

It’s a long tentacle anemone. Usually looks like this.

Oohhh I dont have these. I thought it was a BTA. Yeah not sure about whats going on then

So an LTA is not going to attach to anything rather wants to bury its foot deep in the sand.
Recommendation is 3-4 inches but that always seems like a lot for me.
When mine wanders ill coax it into a corner and surround it with rocks, slowly pushing the sand around it. It has to protect it's foot somehow. That's it's mission.
I rarely feed mine. Preference on softer lighting and slower flow. It may stay in one spot for six months then one day it's up and squished itself between two rocks in a dark corner.
Just be careful because unlike other nems damage to this one's foot is usually fatal.
One of the neatest qualities of this nem is the speckled underside which is beautiful.
I don't know what kind of sand you have but the sugar fine is best. Coarse sand makes it hard for digging.
He's rolling around on the sand cuz that's what he's trying to do.
Hope that helps.
Joel
P.S-Mine is 4-5 years old now. You can always put in a plastic container with 3-4 inches of sand and put him in it. Cut out the bottom and turn off the flow. He'll stick his foot to the bottom of the tank. If he attaches you can just pull the container over him scootch up some rocks and box him in.
