Is my anemone okay?

I have kept Nems in 1 month old tanks.

It's not about Age as it is more about your tank's stability and ability to handle what you're putting in it.

Unfortunately without Water Param Measurements, it's hard to say what's going on exactly, so you're getting the "you're tank is too new" catch all answer.

Most of the time, when you have a new tank, the problem is that the water stability and water quality is always bouncing up and down and all over the place.

And even while you might not catch it in testing, you can google online and see even in matured tanks they all have a daily up and down of various parameters.

With newer tanks those swings are much more intense, and the bad things that you don't want going high, often go really really high.

Get some params up and we can give you better direction for. 1. How to save it. 2. What's really bothering it. 3. how to proceed if you can't keep it.
Thank you for all your help. And not making me feel like a point of sale for putting an anemone in my tank too soon, I’m hopeful he’ll recover and if not it’ll definitely be a learning experience for future anemones.

~Yes...it is a BTA
~It can be healthy again however not in a tank just starting the nitrogen process. It would be best to donate to someone with a mature stable system or return it to the LFS ...I'd ask why they sold it to you knowing the forementioned. (It is not your fault)
~You are at a good site to learn some valuable information with decades of knowledgable folks here at R2R.
~We want you to succeed and not fail for your sake and the critters you have sake.
~BTW, welcome aboard...just hate it was done in this thread. :(

When did you set the tank up? .25 ammonia is a normal reading for most if you used an API test kit. The 0 nitrite and 0 nitrate tho seems like you haven't cycled at all (or you're just real good at keeping nutrients down lol.) you already have clowns in the tank I would suggest a bottle of Fritz Turbo start or Dr. Tim's One and Only quickly. If you can't return the nem or have someone home it for a bit you could try a quarantine tank and hope the bacteria gives u a quick cycle.

unfortunately, in this hobby, LFS's seem to not always be the best people to trust.

And I understand why completely, it's just business not personal.

If you go into ANY other store and buy something, it's on YOU to know what you're doing.

If you buy an iPhone, or a Table Saw, you're the one who has to know what to do with it.

The same applies to Fish stores, You wouldn't buy a table saw if you were afraid you didn't know how to use it and were going to injure yourself.

In the future, don't buy fish or inverts if you're not confident you're not going to hurt it, and I promise you, you will do just fine in this hobby.

anytime you feel someone is making you feel dumb or stupid.

Just realize to expierinced hobbyist, it's like you telling a carpenter you bought a table saw and cut your thumb off, most likey they're going to haze you a little. :P.

I do use the API test kit for both saltwater + reef master. I’m not sure on exactly when I started my tank but I added my clownfish on July 26th after it was cycled. I added this anemone on August 22nd. I use Fritz complete + Fritz 9 occasionally.

I completely get what you’re saying 100% and I appreciate all the input from all the experienced hobbyist’s, it definitely did not get ignored. I’ll definitely do all my research next time before buying anymore fish or inverts and even when I feel like I’ve done enough research, I’ll do more.

Sounds great new friend...now...stop beating yourself up and enjoy. :)

Exactly

Just realize if that Nem dies, I bet $50 it came from another Nem in the hobby somewhere already. It's just a clone. Don't feel TOO bad :p haha jk, but kind of how I justify killing coral sometimes ;Playful;Yawn

So the tank has had fish for almost 2 months, Clowns are alive and you have algae so you can support life. 0 nitrate, maybe wanna try to get that up just a bit. What kind of light is it under? Most bubble tips under distress usually shrivel up. At least the ones I've had in the past. I agree things aren't right with it, but it's still bubbled up and open. So maybe try to increase your light intensity a little over the week and feed the tank a little more. You're not out of the woods but, it's not dead yet either.

Is this the today picture? Can you flip the rock upsothat the anemone is facing up? Check if it has melted or not. Take a pic and post. It might not be dead but could still still come back. But hard to see where it is.

As for the ammonia trace, the API test kit is not great. Next time measure your new saltwater and see if it shows traces. Dependant on whether you use tap vs RODI of course.

It is today picture, my boyfriend and I already tried to do that but the anemone is stuck to both the rock on top and the one on bottom and I didn’t want to mess with it anymore than we did just trying to do that. What do you suggest using? That was all my LFS had.

My LFS suggested getting it the same day I got my clowns
Just to make the sale. I would find a new store. Anyone that would care about the animal would tell you to wait until the ugly faxes of the tank are over and you have had success with intermediate corals.... otherwise they just won’t make it. Rule of thumb is that if it’s still attached it’s still got a chance. That being said... the next time you have a spike or a swing it will likely be the end of it. If you have a friend in the hobby with an established tank I would ask him to house it temporarily until your tank levels out

In my opinion tho it appears to be happy attached is pictures of mad and hurt nems I’ve experienced personally
Edit: watch the mouth. If it is closed unless trying to feed it is healthy. If you notice the mouth gaping for long periods of Time then something is wrong.

I put BTA in a 3 Month old Tank, it survived its foot being cut off, being bleached and being on wavemaker. And its alive and thriving.
I believe it’s possible. But I also believe experience is everything

Oh wow, yeah I’m hopeful it’ll survive! And if not I’ll just make sure I wait a while before adding anything else. Unfortunately I don’t know of anyone close by who is also a hobbyist to take the poor thing in (I wish I did) but thank you!

If it ever falls to the floor of the tank and has a bad Odor remove it or it will nuke the tank also good luck
Edit: example of mouth being open. He got close to my wave maker so I moved him and now he is p***ed off. He still ate for me today so I’m not worried about him. But stress plays a huge part with these animals.

My condolences. I think it might have a glimmer of hope. If it starts to get worse but still not 100% going to die, maybe put it in QT tank with the same or even maybe better water so if it does die it doesn't nuke everything. Also, keep your clowns away from it, I am not sure if they are hosting anything else and I cannot read the whole thread because I am in a rush but also keep your clowns away from it

Hopefully you didn’t look at my bad examples lol his looks much better then the ones pictured on this page

Hard to find a reputable LFS.

Most aren't in business to see you succeed, but to get you to spend money with them.

If you want to try an experiment, take a picture of you Nem and then show it to the LFS. Ask them whats wrong and if they have anything to correct it. I'd bet they sell you something.
