Two days ago I purchased a young blue tang (1.5"), yellow tang (2") and a black cap basslet. I put them into TTM (10G) and I raised the SG in the TTM tank (LFS water was at 1.018 and I raised to 1.020). Yellow and basslet seem to be ok but the basslet just hangs in a corner or in a piece of PVC.

After the first day and in the morning when I first turned on the lights, the blue tang was in a corner laying on it's side. He lost some color. Then after about 30 minutes he was upright and still hanging in the corner. Later I fed the fish and the blue ate like a pig! He was up and about and hanging out with the yellow tang. He seemed to be much better.

Then this morning (2nd day in TTM), I turn on the lights and he is laying on his side and color is lost. I tapped the glass and he barely moved. I nudge him with a fish net and he moves a little. Then about 10 minutes later, he is up and about but not zooming around. Color is regained.

Is this normal for blue tangs? Are they sleepy heads? Is he like a young teenager and needs his sleep? Or can he still be stressed from move from the LFS, car ride, TTM tank and SG raise?

BTW, USMC 4 life (thanks!) helped me out in another forum and what he said made sense but I wanted to see what others have experienced with their blue tangs.

Thanks in advance,
Steve

I have a blue tang before, he sleeps like death....I am really worried at the first time until I knew that is the way the blue tang sleep.

These fish have one of the most unique and worrying sleeping behaviors out of any animal I’ve ever seen. They will sleep at weird angles, turn pale, even their eye color looks different. The first few days I had mine, I was worried it died. The extra worry from me was because mine was rescued from another person who had no clue what they were doing. 6” yellow tang, 2” blue tang, another large but dead fish I couldn’t identify, and a few chromis. Even months later, the sleeping behavior is still a bit freaky to me. Mine goes from a beautiful deep blue to powder blue tang color, you can see how green the eyes are, etc. Don’t stress about it. Just make sure you keep it fat and provided it didn’t come in with ich and you never introduce another fish that has ich, it will very likely live a long, healthy life.
