Hard to say from the picture. Are those areas getting light or are they shaded?

You could glue a rock or other object in between and watch for a couple weeks for improvement. Could also stay up late and see if you sweeper tentacles from the chalice.

not shaded, directly under light. I actually saw tentacles from chalice almost touching monti - not sure if that means it it immidiately stung or chalice was/is just feeding

If you saw that tentacles close to the monti then good chance they are getting in a hit occasionally. I would put up a barrier and watch for health improvements

thank you.. i just moved chalice completely elsewhere, without ability to reach any other coral.. i like chalice so didn't want to get rid of it but i a more than convinced it harassed my monti.. chalice had like 20 long tentacles out last few days where at least 5 of them were touching monti continously every night
