Hey, I noticed today that my clam is keeping his incurrent siphon wider open than he generally does and was just wondering if this could be a sign of sickness... I'll include a picture. He is very responsive to shadows although he's not opening fully but that might be because he has a Manjano anemone and had a couple aiptasia anemones on his shell with their tentacles touching his mantle...I tried to use glue to cover the aiptasia nems when they balled up but ran out of glue and won't have anymore until later today... Not a good sign
Assure parameters are in range and no tulip like snails are inside of it

I think I just figured out what's wrong...my alk has been testing really high for no reason so one of the suggestions I got was to make sure my refractometer is correctly calibrated...went today to check it out and found it was reading 10 ppt below the actually salinity (it read 25 ppt when testing the stores water that they assured me was 35 ppt)

Here are some essentials;
All no higher than 11
Salinity no higher than 1.026
Mag no higher than 1350
Temperature no higher than 80
Ca no higher than 450
Phos no higher than .04
Nitrate no higher than 12

moderate flow
Good but not strong light
The snails are called pyramid snails which poses threat

I've had all that in check except for my salinity since my refractometer was off...he's looking better already

How are you lowering the salinity? If those were in check at the high salinity and you're just removing saltwater and adding rodi water, everything will be out of whack.

I started out using hypo saline salt water but after a little while realized that to reduce the salinity from 45 to 35 was going require me replacing practically all the water that way so I slowly drained some water and then added RODI water periodically over an hour. You're right, the tank will take a little time to stabilize and I'll almost certainly have to do further changes over the next few days to achieve the right calcium, mag, etc. levels but I couldn't think of any other way to do it without a 100% water change which would remove all nutrients. After the water change I added Phyto, AF zooplankton/Phyto blend, nitrifying and probiotic bacteria, and AF Life Source mud from Fiji in an attempt to add as many trace elements back as soon as possible...like I said I'm aware my parameters will need some time to stabilize...do you have any good ideas to share?
I'll be up late tonight testing the water to see what I need to do
