This is my new clownfish. I have had him two days now and this is all he does. Swims near the bottom and looks generally stressed. My parameters are excellent. Is this normal clown behavior? The only thing I can think is that I have been having contradictory temperature readings between my thermometers and have been trying to get the heat to stabilize. Ant thoughts would be appreciated.

Stable temp would be a good ting to have. But in general, Clownfish usually keep to one spot in the tank they call their territory. And he's still getting used to his new surroundings.

Normal clown behavior, hanging out in a spot it likes. In the other post with the video i mentioned he looked stressed because it appeared he was breathing rapidly, now that i know you just recently added him to the tank would explain why he looked stressed. Clownfish are in general pretty hardy fish so keep an eye on him get he temp stable, keep water parameters in check and he should do fine.

Yea usually clowns and especially small clowns will just hang in a corner and not come out to much. Ive had few clowns do this and not move out of corner for 6 months before they finally come out more. But they still hang in the corner mostly even after a year of having my pair

I was just getting ready to do a water change and I tested the water before the change. The water tested .5 for ammonia! What the heck! I have never tested my water before a water change, this has been the problem the whole time! I read that you could let tap water sit out for a few days and all that ammonia and chlorine would be released. But something isn't right here. Can anyone help? What do you guys use for water?

Do not use tap water it has too many chemicals in it. Only rodi water is suitable for reef tanks. You can buy it at grocery stores or we have water fill stations here. Clowns are funny little guys but the tapwater is not good for him and may be causing problem.

Ive had 2 platinum clown for like 1 month now and they were doing just fine. My temperature has been jumping up and down from 78 to 83 highest. 2 days later he started acting up and then found him on the floor knowing he was going to die and next morning found him dead. Now my other clown is doing fine. But im scared hes going to die too.

Last week my temp swing from a steady 79 all the way up to 84, in a 4 hour period. Lost two (Tang, Angel) of five fish, both maroon clowns lived. Since then, I have a fan to keep temp in check, so far so good. Hopefully I won't loose $120 over a five degree temp swing again

You have to get the temperature controlled you are getting into the danger zone. Fish will not have enough oxygen to survive.

When you see your temp starting to creep up do this:

Get Two liter bottles, milk jugs or anything that has a top and will seal. fill them 3/4 full of water and freeze, then float them in your tank to bring temp back down. I would do this before the temp got into the 80's. Good luck!

I have a temperature controller that will kick on a fan when the heat gets half degree to warm. the reason for the tight tolerance is because it takes a while to cool the tank with a fan. This summer I may be using ice too.

How do you control the temperature drop rate with ice? Dropping to fast is not good. Also how long does the temp stay low? Can a person drop ice bottle in before work and be OK until after work?

I've been keeping my fan on 24/7 with the heater kicking in at 77.2. So far I've been able to keep it steady at 77.4-77.5. My central air in the apartment is set for 74. This seems to be working so far

Im pretty sure your heater will kick on and keep the water at a good temp. I do not think that ice will make the water too cold. Just don't put a lot of ice in.

+1 It just depends on what size your aquarium is and how warm the water is. Play with it while you are at home. Start with one, if that doesn't make much difference next time add two, and so on.
