I know Cyphastrea don’t need hardly any light so I am very confused with this. My Cyphastrea has turned brown a lot ever since I put it in the tank 2 weeks ago. It wasn’t the most stunning color to start off but it has turned more brown recently. It used to be mostly all that blue color you see on some of it. Is the Cyphastrea not getting enough light or is this it adapting to a new environment and changing colors in the process?

They require a moderate light and indirect water flow to ensure that no detritus builds up on their body. As they grow however their shape can become more of a detritus trap and you may have to change things up to keep them clean. If the detritus is allowed to build up it will over time kill the coral underneath. You dont want to blast it but offer moderate to good flow.

I cant imagine it being lack of light personally. I have cyphastreas that grow completely under rocks where there is all but no light other than some that reflects off glass.

The polyps are extended. That’s good news. If anything they might be getting too much light if it’s turning brown.

Yeah that’s why I was skeptical. I have never heard of a Cyphastrea that is browning out from too little light.
