I just bought a blue Cyphastrea with pink polyps And it’s been in my tank for about 2-3 weeks. I put it under a ledge in about the middle of the tank last week. I can’t see it very well, but I feel like it has some tissue recession. Can I get some opinions? I’m not sure if it may be getting too much light or potentially not enough? Something else entirely... Or if it’s actually totally fine.

Salinity: 35
no3: 25
Po4:.07
Alk:8.97
Ca: 503
Mg: 1435

it’s been pretty stable with those numbers.

Unfortunately, I cannot see it very well either! Can you get a better pic? It might want a little more light, it kind of looks half shaded, but perhaps that's the angle.

Does it have reasonable polyp extension when the lights are on? At 2-3 weeks it's just getting tuned in to the new location. If that growth up front is new since you installed then your coral is fine and growing nicely.

Here’s one with the polyp lab lens. I think they’re extended. I placed right on the edge of light and shade. So part is shaded part is in the light. I thought they did better in darker areas, but maybe i misunderstood.

Here it is under white. I think it looks terrible under the white. You can also kind of see the shade line. I can move it out a little bit more.

Here is what mine looks like when it is open.
It is about midway in my tank under Radions.

Sorry for all the pictures. Here’s one from the other side.

And here it is Wednesday from the same angle.

and here it is right after I put it on the frag rack on septmber 22nd. Maybe the polyps are more extended than they were. I may just be being paranoid. I’ve been keeping an eye out for this color for a while and I’ll be sad if it dies.

and this is why I wanted this color variant so bad. I have radions too. It may just still be settling in. But I want mine to look just like yours! Lol

One of these days I’m just going to buy a good camera for my tank. I just don’t think my phone camera does it justice. But it may be operator error.

I’ve always thought cyphastrea was supposed to be an easy coral, but it’s one of the only corals that never grows in my tanks. Hope you figure it out.
Me too! I’ve had a purple and green one before and it was growing really well. I re-aquascaped and forgot which rock it was on and couldn’t ever find it once I realize it wasn’t visible. Lesson learned: don’t fix what’s not broken. ;Bucktooth

Any livestock that might pick?
List?

I have anthias, a yellow tang, chalk baselets, diamond goby, hermits, a Halloween crab, a harlequin shrimp, a cleaner shrimp... I have had a few pests from using live rock from
Someone else’s tank... I will never go that route again.

To be honest it looks ok from what I can tell in the pictures

lol. after I posted the pictures and could see them next to each other, I kind of agree. I hope I’m just being a helicopter parent.

Wow. Too bad. That coral has really gone down hill in the last 9 days since you moved it from the frag rack way back on September 22nd. (Translation: I think you should relax and wait for the coral to have time to adjust to the new life and maybe this time next year you can frag me a little chunk the size of the one you are coveting in @WV Reefer pic.)

It drives me crazy when people say that nothing good happens quickly in this hobby. Look how fast 9 days have flown by! :)

Hahaha. I swear it had been 3 weeks. When I scrolled back to see the pictures, I realized it hadn’t been nearly as long as I thought. I guess I was expecting the blue to be brighter. In my head, it seems like I can see part of the skeleton where the blue is. But that might just be how the blue looks under the light? Seriously was about to have a heart attack when I thought it might be Skelton.
