I just noticed this position today and expected to see a thicker foot here.

I have had the clam for approximately 5 days now I believe. It is under t5s.

Let me know if you need other info.

It's a beautiful Derasa.

Larger clams like Derasa and Gigas are not rock boring clams nor do they need to attach because their size keeps them upright and in place.

Thank you for the response and compliment. That certainly helps put my mind at ease.

I enjoy these animals the most in this hobby I think.

Nice photos of your clam. I'm just starting this hobby and hope to add a clam to my tank someday.

Hey, I think some of my fish have been trying to eat the poop coming from the siphon. Have they simply nipped some flesh? Will the clam be alright? The siphon is usually more coned shaped. Spelling on that word...

Well update on the clam. I'd like to get opinions on if I should go ahead and pull him out. Found out tailspot blenny was nipping. Then also caught my cryptic wrasse nipping a little.

I apologize for the crappy pictures, but he's under a "protection device" currently.

At this point I'm looking for experience from others who have had clams. I need to know if I should go ahead and pull this poor fellow out now or do you think he will recover?

He does react, if pretty slowly to my touch. He does not react to my hand creating shade over him.

The tailspot blenny has been removed.

Perhaps I'm jumping the gun, but it's showing some life! I can't upload the video, but it keeps inhaling and exhaling... At least that's what it looks like.

That clam looks really sucked in:/ i have a derosa but its my only clam i've ever had so i dont have much experience on em...i hope someone pops some good info

As much as it pains me. The gaping as gone to its fullest extent I think. I'll be removing it tonight so it doesn't pollute the rest of the tank.

I've only had my Maxima clam to 3 days now, but just a thought. Was your clam 'gapping' like that before you put it under the 'protective lid'? From the photo, it appears that there may not be much current flow getting to the clam. Also, maybe what you have on top of the 'protective' lid may actually be blocking the proper amount of light getting to the clam.
(Like I said, just a thought. I'm new to clams as well and definitely not an expert.)

Thanks for replies. The way I had the container set up was an opening in the front where water could enter, since my outlet nozzles are pointed in that direction.

It was gaping before then yes. I didn't leave it under it for the remainder of the night. It was simply too much of a risk at that point, and no one, to my K owl edge has brought a clam back from that much of a gape.
