So I went to a local who sells frags and he said he had a Duncan that has 100+ heads. I figured if I fragged these heads I could make some money. I ended up buying it and coming home. He had the lights off and we were in the basement so the only lights that were on were the lights in the tank. From the angle that it was at I didn’t notice anything wrong. I got home and noticed that there’s one side that looks like a greenish brown. I flipped it over and the whole bottom is like this. Did I buy a dead Duncan? About 3/4 of the head look normal but I just wanna make sure that these heads aren’t going to slowly die.

Welcome to R2R! The tubes that are completely dark are likely dead, however all the rest of the heads still have a polyp in them. Once you get it in the tank and under proper lighting I'll bet itll open right up :D

Nope, more unsightly than anything. You can cut them off or just leave them be. Chances are the dead ones were under the still living ones and got shaded out. I have a few on my Duncan colony as well

Welcome to R2R!

I agree with Crabs, those look to have been dead for some time. You can cut them away after it get's acclimated to your tank or when you frag it.

Oh, and grab that nice little free brittle star and put it in your tank! :D
