He fell over (glue arrives tomorrow to fix that) and then I had to dig him out of the rock. He was happy before that. I put him in the sand bed for now but he has some stringy stuff coming out and completely retracted. I assume it’s a reaction to his minor trauma and should be fine w time?

That little freak is going to be moody. Expect it.

Yes, Katrina said it... they get moody. Don’t like high flow or getting bumped around.
Mine can go from this

To this, and sometimes closed for days or a week...

And I have no 100% sure reason why.
I know it hates high flow. But I think there is another thing that irritates it...
Maybe bacteria, maybe chemical...

Sure is pretty when he’s not annoyed!

For sure, beautiful when open.
I don’t know for sure that they are annoyed when closed either. Maybe it’s something they do to regenerate, or maybe the can photosynthesize better when closed. It certainly looks annoyed to me when closed...I really don’t know...
But what I can say is don’t worry... and give it time and stability and not too much flow.

Mine does great in high flow and has tentacles that are nearly 4" when fully opened. It seems to always be open (as long as the lights are on).

I noticed he closed right up when the lights went off. Was opened nicely when I got home from work until he fell lol.
