Hi, all - I have a question about how much flow is sufficient for an LPS tank, and whether I should be seriously considering an upgrade. I have a BioCube 32 that is recently cycled. Only powerhead in the tank is a Koralia 240. Coralife rates their stock return pump at 264GPH, so combined with the Koralia that gives me about 500GPH turnover. I estimate there is a total of about 25G of water in the system, giving me 20x turnover. I can't find the exact threads now that I'm looking for them, but I think I've read in the past that higher flow than this is recommended for keeping corals happy. Should I be adding/upgrading powerheads?

You really can’t have enough flow. What you don’t want however, is laminar flow. You want to position the powerhead to force the water to be disbursed when it hits the glass or rock work.
Having said this, how much water flow is a tough question to answer. The reason for this is due to many variables. What type of coral? How much rock? Placement of your rock? Position of your powerhead(s)?
Also, once you get your powerhead(s) up and running, you will be able to see where flow is the strongest and weakest and where you have dead spots where detritus can accumulate which isn’t a good thing!
