Greetings, I just bought an entire 65 gallon system to merge with my primary 220 gallon system. After moving the system, I have the 65 gallon tank running for observation before moving the contents into my main tank. The previous owner claims to have not added any new livestock to the tank in the last six months. I noticed these markings on the kole tang's back fin, hopefully it is nothing (maybe it got caught on a rock or something). It is very active, a bit shy perhaps, but does appear to be eating and picking at the rocks...

Any thoughts would be most welcome!

Thanks!

Maybe he just got a little banged up when being caught by the previous owner? Scraped against some rocks? Even so, I wouldn't add him to your DT until after he heals. Just to be safe.

Yeah, I agree with humble fish. It looks like a mechanical injury. The fish looks as if he has good color, is alert and active and reasonably plump: all signs of good health.

Sometimes damaged fins heal and repair to a pristine state. Other times, they never look quite right. But, that would be cosmetic.

Awesome, thanks so much everyone!

I will sit tight and see how it goes over the next few weeks. I was fearing the worst, but agree, it does look like he is just a little banged up. It is a very timid little fish and there were a lot of rocks moving around and tumbling during the move, it would have been easy for it to get caught up...

Good news everyone! Even though it has only been a week, it looks like my Kole is fully healed. I must have nicked him with the rocks as I was moving the tanks. I have not had a chance to take a picture (this involves camping out with my camera, lol)

Thanks for your support!

That probably won't be the last time. My Kole seems to scrape himself every other month while weaving in and out of the rocks. He always heals up fine. I do dose vodka, so maybe he's drunk swimming when he does it.
