So I'm setting up a fowler new tank. My lfs says using cured live rock, marine pure and also a "good and dirty filter pad" from my nano reef i would be ready for fish in a week....seems a little fast to me. They were referring to a puffer.

If ur live rock is truly cured u should have very low to no cycle but I would always wait a good 4+ weeks just in case u have die off from the Rock or mabey pest on the like rock always easier to deal with problems with out fish in the tank

Is the new tank larger than the old one? And if so, by how many gallons? If you use your old substrate, LR, and water, you should be bringing over enough of your beneficial bacteria that you will have little to no cycling, depending on how much larger the tank is.

I know its cured...she was way cool and let me test her water. The rock has been in her shop for a couple months.she don't sell much but has a truck load in stock

Guess I will get flamed for saying this but if you are going to recycle your cured live rocks and seeded filter pads...then you can just start adding fish immediately. Just make sure you test your parameters twice a day for the first 10 days and be ready for large W/C if you see any signs of ammonia.

The only thing dead willbbbe the new marine pure bio media in the sump.

She told me to do a water change in my nano reef and put the old water in my new tank? I didn't comprehend that at all

Agreed. I'll have corals in my tanks before some people would have their first fish :D

I don't see why you won't be able to add your fishes in then...However, I would not add a fish freshly bought from your lfs right away without QT them in a separate tank

I completely agree

And yea i mean its not that big of a deal, it really doesnt make a difference but ur fish are adapted to those water conditions in so it wouldnt hurt to do so

Also if your not going bb and have sand in ur nano dont transfer it, deff should start with new sand nd use a cup or 2 from ur old sand

Agree with most. If rock is cured and there is enough for the initial bioload, you can add live stock same day.

No they are not lying. But nothing lost in waiting a week. Yer gonna need time to create the scape anyway.

No flaming just agreeing over here. Done this no less than 3 or 4 times

Thank you all for your input. If i do add fish I. Think i will wait at least a week. And do it like i did in my freshwater days slowly
