I got an LTA yesterday it kept coming loose from the sand and blowing around so I angled it slightly and placed a fake cave over it’s foot. it was open and doing well until this morning when the lights came back on it was tucked in a ball completely inside the cave after coming home from work and seeing it was still the same I decided to move the cave and it grabbed onto the inside of the cave to where it was upside down (should’ve taken a picture) so I gently popped it off and just buried it in deeper sand it’s come out of the sand some and is staying mostly closed I’m not sure what to do with it I feel like it’s going to come out of the sand again

Well I’m pretty sure this stuff coming out his mouth means he’s dead should’ve got a bubble tip or something I guess

I wouldn't say its dead. Have you tried feeding it?
No I haven’t, I just adding him a few days I was told to wait for him to settle and look healthy before trying to feed. I have fed the tank flakes and shrimp and seems like what he was spitting up was a mysis shrimp still moving around a lot should I keep the flow low? Or normal? I tested the water last night 8.1 ph 0 ammonia 1.0 nitrite and 5 nitrates I did a 40% water change not sure what spiked my nitrites usually not that high, calcium 448, magnesium 1320, salinity 1.025 any help would be appreciated a couple more days of this and I will return to store, my two toadstool leathers are doing well

He looks fine, my LTA one night got stuck on the foam guard that comes with the mp40 pumps and I didn't notice until the next morning. It looked really bad but I just set him in the sand and he came back to life. Anemones are strong creatures and can survive much better than we think. I'd say give him some more time, if you have clownfish I have seen some nurse anemones to health

Let it settle in. Normal flow is fine because it usally forces them to find there final spot and stay there. I would give it time I dont think it looks too bad.

I do have a couple supercell clowns they spent a minute to check it out but went back to hosting the power head

he let go again... repositioned him where he was laying maybe he’ll stay there
In my experience nems can take anywhere from 7-14 days (even longer sometimes) to pick a preferred spot in their aquarium. I have seen them attach to some spot for a few days and overnight move to another position for another few days; the process is repeated until the anemone feels secure. What your anemone is doing is normal, try not to get impatient and allow it some time to settle in.

Okay I just can’t help but feel like I need to do something when it’s floating around and laying on its side somewhere I’ll leave him alone for a while see what happens

Well it’s been 6 days nem still hasn’t found a spot and has just been laying in the back of the tank for 2 days now

I was yanked out of the ocean, stuck into a holding tank (maybe for weeks) then shipped halfway around the world and stuck into another holding tank(maybe for weeks) before being shipped to a LFS (where you bought it). During this time I've not had the best of light and nothing to EAT.
I say feed it. See if it eats.

Sand bed doesnt look deep enough to me. My preferred method for getting LTA's to attach is a pvc segment dug into sand all the way to glass bottom, clear out all the sand inside leaving bare glass, set nem in, wait for it to attach, gently lift PVC and let sand surround foot or slowly fill pvc with sand around foot and pull it later.

LTAs don't really find spots on their own, if it's above the sand then it can't burrow back. I would recommend placing it in a spot with mild flow and decent light, making sure to bury the foot deep and by the base of a rock. He doesn't look very bad, just a little stressed is all.
Good luck with him! He's a gorgeous one for sure.

Mine does. I wonder who helps them find a spot in the ocean?
they typically settle in their forever spot while still in the larval phase.
What I mean by my first comment is that they can't really move as well as, say, a BTA can. while a BTA has a highly flexible, fast acting foot, LTAs by nature have thicker, stronger but also slower feet. That coupled with the fact that they can't travel over sand typically means they'll be blown around in the flow before they can settle. Sorry if that was a bit misleading, I should have clarified beforehand lol

My LTA just decided to do a relocation dance the other day . Leave it alone. She will settle when she finds a spot she likes.
Every time you take action on her it stresses her out. I killed two of them by thinking what would be a good spot and trying to relocate them. Do not try to relocate them.
They have their own mind and will move if they not like where they are. Typically not the spot you choose for them. :( ;)

Mine, for some reason does not like lot of water flow.
See my recent link on this.. dance of my LTA
