hey y'all. Put in a powerhead - seems a bit strong to me, but then again I haven't had one until now. Does this seem too strong? cause it's on the lowest setting, I'd have to get a new one.

Is the placement okay? Thanks! happy reefing

No definitely not too strong. Dont want to point it directly at any real coral, but if anything I would say you may need more flow in the tank if that is all you have. Hard to tell cause cant see the whole tank though.

Thanks, I'll try to get another video tomorrow. How do you even determine "too much" or "too little" - to me, the macros were waving, my euphyllia was waving too, and the fish were more actively swimming through the current; so for me I thought maybe it was actually too fast. I'm not sure what to eye to make a judgement

2 videos on flow for mainly soft coral tanks but also why and what flow is good in a tank and what it does.

Thanks! I feel like I got a good sense of how I should use my equipment but not what I should be looking for in my aquarium. Here is the aforementioned video I said I would add:

There's some movement from my codium, and my euphyllia tightened up a little bit, but is still waving in the current.

Im by no means expert on flow for corals as i not added corals to my tank yet.i only had the 3- 4 hours research a night for last 2 months and some research 5 years ago.big part this research was mainly on flow, lighting, aquascaping and what i got written in notes i took is soft/ lps corals 20- 40 tank turnover a hour and sps corals 40- 100 times.
So if you wanted to check yours ,you could do tank size in gallons ÷ how much your pumps add upto and get the answer.
Or do maths other way to how much is recommended example 50 gallon tank x 20 = 1000gph .
But research is one thing but experience keeping these animals is different so hopefully someone with real world experience can tell you.
Ovbiously what your pump rated at in gph is at 100% strength and when brand new,and rocks, flow hitting glass all affects flow.
I like how you got yours set on random flow as can see your impeller coming on and off so nice one.but my guess would be by your video you not got enough and would turn it up a bit and if your corals start to not like it then can always turn back down.good luck whatever you decide buddy
