I have had several fish in QT for six weeks now. During that time, I did a week without any treatment, and five weeks of Paraguard. Usually I would do four weeks of Paraguard, but one fish arrived a week later so I started over.

Yesterday was the last day of Paraguard, and I have not observed any strange behavior or any external signs of disease.

My plan was to throw some carbon in tonight, and then start treatment with PraziPro tomorrow.

So a couple of questions:

1) What is the proper method for in-tank Prazi treatment? In other words, proper dose, how long, etc? I have seen different methods discussed so I am slightly confused here. I have previously just done a bath with Prazi, but I figured that was less effective.

2) Is there anything else that I should add to this regimen?

Thanks for any advice.

Follow the dosing directions on the prazi bottle. Dose it in the tank, wait 5-7 days do a water change and dose it a second time. That's all there is to it.

I would skip paraguard all together and run TTM or Copper for 30 days. They are much more effective at treating things like ich and velvet (with the copper).

Thank you. In the past I have typically treated prophylactically with Cupramine. However I spoke with Seachem and they recommended Paraguard in place of Cupramine if there were no signs of disease due to the relative toxicity of the two products.

If I haven't seen any signs of ich or other disease at this point, would you still be concerned? I've already done the 30 days with Paraguard.

Thanks again!

Also, how large of a water change between the two Prazi treatments?

Thanks again!

I would be simply because paraguard is basically useless for treating much of anything aside from a very mild infection. I would, at a minimum, remove all meds after treatments are complete and observe them for two weeks. Watch very closely for behavioral symptoms like flashing, scratching, heavy breathing ect.

The water change can be as little as 10% or as much as 50% depending on your needs.
