Hi R2R folks,
Just finished setting up my scape and I'm going for a mix reef with this one. Just trying to get some feedback from everyone, want to make sure the scape is not too high and if it will do well for a mix reef. Thank you

I made similar mistake. I think you will find it hard to put corrals on the very top rocks. I redid my scape to allow max 70 percent of scape below water level.

I think it looks good. Make sure you don't put any corals, like some sps, that will get super tall on the tallest points of your rocks. But having a mixed reef I think it would be just fine. I did a scape once that slightly emerged above the water line, I think I put various zoas around the waterline if I remember right.

Fish will love it. If you're placing corals at the top, then I agree you might lower it to give them room to grow vertically.

High points of the structure will be SPS :)
I assumed that to be the case. If you're wanting to stack branchy acro up there, it's too high as they will be tips out in not too long.

Now some encrusting montipora would do well there.

TBH, the biggest issue I see with the scape, as far as mounting coral onto, is the severity of the incline of the face. A steep face like that is difficult to mount coral to, giving them room to grow, light on all sides and without shading out below.

If for a LPS dominant tank then it is not only good, but rather an ideal scape height.

Thank you all for the input, I appreciate it. Ok so I dropped the rocks lower and moved some pieces around. Any better?

I like it more, but also I can tell you at the end of the day it comes down to how much do you like it. My biggest regret from my first scape was letting people talk me into changing it lol. Good luck with the tank either way!

I think it’s perfect, just smart coral placement and it will look great

For sure and I appreciate the advise! I am happy with the scape, even after the changes. Its more to do with the corals happiness than mine lol. So I really dont mind moving the scape around and I value anyones input.
