Hey guys! I noticed my Pederson Shrimp seemed to be carrying what look like eggs. Wondering if that’s actually what they are? And if so, do I need to do anything to care for them? Thanks #reefsquad

Does look like eggs to me. Unfortunately i'm not sure the care of baby shrimp. Never been a mother to shrimp before :) Well see if someone else may know.

I don't think they're fertile since it's the only Pederson shrimp in the tank. But I have read that if the shrimp is carrying the eggs on their swimmerets then they are fertile. I'm not really sure tbh hahahaha any help is appreciated :)

I do not know the Pedersons that well, but I have had many cleaner shrimp. The cleaners have green eggs, but they are carried in the exact same spot as where your shrimp’s are. Pedersons’ eggs are more beige to orange I believe. Perhaps yours look blue due to the the lighting?

Beautiful shrimp by the way. She looks like a gazelle.

Thank you!!! And yeah they're a very light orange color. I'm kind of curious to see if I can raise them. Only problem is that I don't know that much about raising shrimp lol. What was your experience with your cleaner shrimp's eggs?

I had a pair for six years and it seemed like she was always full of eggs. I never really bothered with the larva, I just considered it free food for the fish and anemones. I have read it is hard to raise the larva as they are very delicate. One would need a separate tank with low flow and plankton for feeding.

I'll probably do the same haha. Weird thing is is that I only have 1 Pederson shrimp so I don't know why it's carrying eggs in the first place o_O

I believe shrimp eggs are fertilized by the male as they are laid by the female. As for carrying eggs, human females carry eggs even when we’re not preggo so not all that unusual. ;)

Good to hear! Thanks so much!
