Just noticed this on my reefer 350, top front corner. Had the tank nearly 2yrs, never noticed it before so I dont know if its new.



Is my tank going to explode while Im sleeping?

Seen a few of these upper side seam issues now on the RS tanks. Maybe it's not just a stand issue, but a silicone issue.

Assuming that is an air bubbles in that seam, then yes, it could fail at any time and you should ideally take action ASAP. If you like to live dangerously then you can monitor daily to check if it's getting worse. Outlining the affected area with a marker and looking for changes is an easy way. Or photograph daily and compare. Clamps or ratchet straps can also help hold things together temporarily.

The tank wouldnt explode, but the panels would eventually split at the upper corner and you will get a nice stream of water shooting out. If you are lucky, it will only drain a couple inches until the water level drops below the affected area.

shine a light on it in different angles, when room is dark, or lit, play around with a few pics to see if we can see more / post those

I think they’re coming out of the woodwork in droves due to a really tight range production lot simply ungluing near the three year mark

waiting on other sites to pick up a few mentions but r2r is ten times busier by the minute compared to any other site so the majority will be here

It is a bit hard for me to tell with your pictures.
However, in case it helps....
.... my RS 425XL had a seam failure last Nov after approx 4 years.
See pics below of the junction of the front panel and the right panel. Split from the top over night without warning (or at least I never noticed the warnings if they were there).
Catastrophic and total loss.
Perhaps same as you: only owner, on a RS stand, totally level, on a concrete slab floor, never moved, etc.
Went right into the dumpster.

Hello,
Woke up this morning to a failed seam between front wall and side wall at the top of the tank.
RedSea Reefer 425 XL
Purchased June 2018.
went to bed at midninght and all was fine. woke up at 6am and was leaking out. No other issues so far.
Disaster as I dont think it is recoverable.
I assume it just worsens and fails worse.
I assume NOBODY feels this is safely salvageable? Should it be tried?
Any thoughts?

Get a long woodworking clamp and clamp that side front to back until you can figure out what to do with the livestock. Should keep tank from splitting temporarily.

Makes sense since the warrantee is 2yrs.

Mark the bottom of the failure point with a sharpie, monitor if progressing.

Clamp up top would help, just don't overdo it.

Every company can have failures, it's how they handle the issue is what will decided whether people will continue buying from them or NOT

is that the actual shape of the seam, inside the two glass panels? if so I'm placing this in my red sea seam split tracking thread

Looks like salt drip in many photos, except the 2nd to last. That one looks like an air bubble.

Def a failure with salt creep already inside of it! It’s only a matter of time.. I’d put a quick grip squeeze clamp on it for the time being…

It is DEFINITELY not salt creep. I wiped that glass prior to taking the pics. The glass is very clean where you see the bubble. More pics wont help, I think it just must look like salt creep in the photo, its definitely not.

That doesn't look good to me. Seems like a lot of Red Sea tanks are failing lately. My 3 year old RS 525 had a silicon issue recently as well. Red Sea was willing to warranty it out, but I didn't want to risk another tank failing from them. Currently my fish are in a 150 gallon tub while I set up an Innovative Marine 100 INT. They should be moved in on Friday.

The glass is very clean, their is zero salt creep in any Pic.

Can you link to the red sea split seam your referring to
