Is my space invader going to blow up??

I just fed my corals, which I do twice a week and have never seen it do this before. First pic is what it normally looks like, 2nd is what it did 30 seconds after.

oh wow that is quite a bit. Nice piece!

A word of advice, you are going to need to give that bad boy some room! It's hard to tell from the photos, but it looks like you have some candy canes near him and some zoa's on the other side. Once he is settled and growing, you will need to be prepared to move him or he will make his own room.

Here is an example. In this photo I have my space invader spun around facing the glass to protect the frags beside him. This worked OK for awhile until I noticed that half his body had bleached completely white as it was not getting enough light. I spun him back and moved the candy cane and favias near him. The reason I spun him in the first place was that him and the chalice just below him in the photo went at it one night and the chalice melted the end of one branch on the space invader. Since I have spun him back, as of now, half the chalice is missing, so I guess the space invader had a long memory and decided a bit of payback was in order, lol.

Lol, now, now, you might be overreacting a little bit. Did you see him do it? Have you looked at your tank at night? Cause, when he is happy and he knows it, and he really wants to show it, he will wave his hands! Meaning he will look like he is part squid from the mass of sweepers that these guys are capable of putting out.

Since the victim inside the chalk outline is a Euphyllia, I find when these guys die, they die. Meaning here today, gone tomorrow. So your torch might have died under suspicious circumstances, but unless you have observed your space invader at night to see if he is in range of the deceased, it might of just been a coincidence.

Also, don't remove the skeleton of the torch just yet (even if it looks bare of tissue). They sometimes grow back from minute bits of tissue between the ridges. I often see this in Frogspawn and Hammers, but I assume Torches can do it as well.

Coincidentally, I just brought a new space invader frag home yesterday. I wanted another one for an upcoming tank build and I did not want to risk cutting a frag from my colony while it is stressed and recovering. The new frag is on a frag rack above the colony, hopefully out of harms way, as I will be away on vacation most of next month. The parts of the colony that are lighter were completely white a few weeks ago.

These guys can grow into some great colonies, so don't give up yours just yet!
