Is my starfish slowly dying?

I have an idea...what if I hatched baby brine shrimp in a container, put them in freshwater which would kill them, and then broadcast fed the tank so the stars and my one cucumber would find them in the sand...does that sound like it might work?
I don’t know what kind of cucumber you have, but for the stars, they need something a little more substantial and solid. Like a piece of shrimp, clam, squid, fish, nori, etc. They are capable of eating fairly large ‘meals’. The baby brine shrimp would be too small (also, they sell frozen baby brine shrimp, no need to hatch them if you’re not going to feed them live).
