I'm seeing what looks like some sort of algae taking over my frag. Any ideas on what it is and how to win this battle?

Not sure about that dark spot, but the other spots are coraline algae which is normal. The coral itself looks pretty good. Let's get some other eyes on that dark spot. [HASHTAG]#reefsquad[/HASHTAG]

Sorry can't help with identification, but agree with removal. Take a razor blade or scalpel and remove, then give it a dip for safe keeping.

I wouldn't be to worried. The monti will kill the algae and grow over it. Place it in good flow to keep algae down.

Is it calcified? If it is it might be another coral that seeded/was left over after the last frag was broken off.

Not sure we talking algae here, I have the same or similar in my tank, dark red/Burgundy in color coralline.
The Monti is much stronger and will over power this.
I've had a Rainbow Monti talking over a 5" probably 40 eyes My Miami Hurricane in less than 4 months and killing it.
