Is my tank ready for corals?

For sure worth it 100% @Jilly92 especially if you have hardcoral.for soft coral it's nice having around but really shines if you're gonna have sps lps around it's good for redbugs monti eating nudibranch any tears in tissue where skeleton is poking out from shipping or coral warfare..lol, and brown jelly if you have lps around...I believe it will help alot

How do you know if its brown jelly? I have a sample I did under my microscope, would you be able to identify?

What kind of euphillidae was it from bubble branching hammer wall hamer or torch?

It's hard to tell from pic it definitely looks like expunged zooanthelle of some kind which primarily what happens to a piece with bjs(brown jelly syndrome) @jilly92did the original piece look something like in the pic below(stolen from Google images )

Lowered my alk all they way to 7.7 and pH is now at around 8.1. I’m very happy with the results.

Added a favia test frag and it is doing great. An almost dead acan (test frag form a month back) is coming back as well.

I wanted to share this update with all of you.

I used sodium bisulfate, followed by a 15% water change to lower my alk. Now my alk sits at 8.1 dkh.

However, this dropped by pH to 7.3. I do not have a protein skimmer, but I have a refugium. I decided to add an airstone to my sump's filter socks chamber and aerated with indoor air. pH did not climb above 7.4 after close to 48 hours of this.

I then routed my air intake to take outside air. The pH is currently sitting at 8.0 (slightly above, I used API for pH) after 12+ hours of outside air. I am so excited about this.

However, I have noticed that my heater is working all the time now. I moved the heater and the thermometer to opposite ends of the display tank before adding the airstone. My tank temp is consistently at 78f despite my heater working all the time.

Should I be worried about the heater overworking? The outside temp is between the high 50s to low 30s.

I am 2 1/2 months in my reef build. From having a fish only salt tank 40 years ago, I learned it's a good idea to have 2 heaters. You just never know.... My 2 are in separate chambers of my sump

Yup. I added another one. They are both Ehiem 100w heaters. They work like normal now and don’t stay on all the time.
