As the title states, is my torch bleaching? What can I do? The biggest change I had this week I ran carbon for the first time because I was getting some painting done and wanted some extra insurance against any fumes that may have gotten in the tank. Also, I did a couple water changes realizing my alk was 6.7, it is now around 7.5. Any help would be appreciated. It is already sitting on the sand bed. So less light really isn't an option.

Try checking with white lights, if you see any tenctacles that look like this its prob bleaching. My torch recovered pretty quickly because for me it was a bit too much light. This was when i first started the tank

Thank you! How drastic was the change in lighting you made to get the color back?

I could see if with blue. Very minimal change. But it could be many things params maybe. Maybe theres nothing wrong at all.

Mmm, try sending a picture in white light. I would personally put him towards the middle to bottom of the tank. More like medium flow. Are you dosing anything?

How long have you had the torch? They're pretty hardy and should bounce back given your parameters are stable.

Swings in parameters can cause this.

I've also seen this happen right after carbon being used.

I would make sure all of your parameters are in line and havent swung like your alk has.

Phos and nitrate swings cause color loss as well.

What lights and schedule do you run? It could need more light if its not getting enough par on the bottom.

I am running the new AP9X at 55% mounted about 11 inches above the water.

I'm not sure par on those but I'm thinking you need to rent a par meter if possible. Its always a guessing game with lights until you get the par set.

At 11" and only %55 you could possibly need to move it higher...

Would it bleach from lack of light? I thought it was too much light.

What else is in the tank? Does anything else show signs of change/stress? How old is the tank? I see whitish rocks in background

I have zoas and acros. Some of my zoas are partially closed, like the polyps are half open. The acros all look great. Tank has been set up for almost 5 months. I glued the torch to a new piece of rock and put it in the sand bed, which is why it has the white appearance.

Definitely get a par meter using those lights they are strong

It's on my list of things to do. There isn't must info on this light. I am basically going off the BRS video, but my tank is so shallow I am sure I am getting some good numbers on the bottom.

How shallow is your tank? That ap9x can grow sps with absolutely no problem in deep tanks. Just to give you an idea I have 2 AI prime 16 hds on my 24" deep tank and have my blues at 80% and whites at 30% (they go to 125%) I can guarantee that ap9x is much stronger than my AI lights. Coral can live for awhile with no problems with not enough light, too much light will harm them fast.

I would turn your lights down on that shallow of a tank. My torch is about 12" below water line which would basically be your sandbed and your lights are much stronger than mine. At least until you can get a par meter. Leave it on the sandbed for a couple days and see if it starts bouncing back.
