i have no idea what kind of urchin it is btw, it's too small to tell. also i don't know what that white stuff over him is? i haven't been home this weekend and just got back and checked on my DT.
can anyone tell me?

Ok so probably not osmotic shock unless you just did a weeks worth of top off at once. If not then its probably releasing sperm, but that only usually lasts a few minutes

I'm yet to see my urchins do it but I see one of my stomatella snails doing it probably once a week. Corals will be very happy for a few hours since it is food for them

my nassarius are horrible.. they always lay eggs all over the glass and it's like three times a week!

I don't have any nassarius snails yet but I gotta pick up like 2 next time I'm at the LFS lol

Sort of looks like a pincushion urchin to me. Mine does that often, I have no idea what or why, but it's healthy and doIng well. As long as it dosent lose its spines and is eating, I wouldn't worry about it.

I agree on pincushion urchin. A better picture is needed to be defintive though. And yeah, if your urchin drops spines its a bad sign, if not hes okay. Thanks for mentioning it

he still gots white dots... idk what it is? i thought it was going away but it isn't. he seems to be fine though no spines dropping or hanging?

It dosent seem to be dropping spines, does it eat well? Mine devour seaweed a few times a day. Only my pincushion urchin does what yours does, the tuxedo urchin dosent. Almost looks like they retract their tube feet.

I have a male and female tuxedo pair. When I do water changes, they release eggs and sperm at the same time! That's what it looks like to me!
