Hey!!!
last week I was feeding my husband’s tank when my favorite fish of all, the orange back fairy wrasse, jumped out of the tank. Right as I was pooping the food in. Anyway. He landed on the hardwood floor. I immediately got him back in the tank where he hung out in a corner for a bit, presumably in shock from the fall. After I bit he did start swimming again.
This was last Thursday. He’s now hanging out in the same top spots everyday. Not swimming around. But he IS eating. His eye on the side he landed in is swollen. Some days worse than others. When he comes out to eat he does do some circling. So I can’t tell for sure if he can see out of that eye.
Is there really anything I can do to help him? Like I said, he is eating. The other fish are leaving him alone and he looks healthy otherwise.

**ignore the ugliness of the bubble algae. We got some emeralds in today. They’re getting to work**

::Update::
His eye wasn’t looking horrible (still swollen) until Tuesday when it took a turn. I got him out of the main tank and into a hospital tank and he’s had two doses of erythromycin with little to no improvement.
He can move his eye like normal and will even track my finger. But this just looks so painful. 2069DED7-F350-42FB-82D8-8517FD98D678.jpeg 2F93FE00-66D8-470B-A5E2-82FF99789B30.jpeg

Had this happen to my Red Lined Wrasse when I scratched it on a rock flying around like a nutter. He had high anxiety and didn’t want to come out ouch. Totally fine 5-7 days after the incident. Just keep the food going in the tank and really good water quality. He’ll recover and become less skiddish once it begins to heal. Fingers crossed for you!

May be eye injury
Best recourse is antibiotics in a separate quarantine setting. The best one is ethromyacin (maracyn 1)

Wrasse will hide and be stressed with an eye injury. Circling is a normal. Eye should heal over time and his vision should be ok. Just watch and make sure eye stays clear. It can get infection that may need treatment. Had it happen to a Rhomboid twice and flame wrasse once.

I agree with Vette guy with meds to treat

Mine recovered without antibiotics, but there is always risk of infection as mentioned.

Thank you! I check on him multiple times a day to make sure he’s okay. So far it’s always been clear, no cloudiness.

Had this happen w my Starkii and flame hawk. At different times. I know it . Freaks u out but if the fish is healthy they heal. Mine did. Good luck
