Is paying premium $$ for 'live sand' necessary?

A preference...

I used Carib Sea Seaflor Select (dry) sand in my recent tank upgrade. It helps buffer ALK and CA, which silica-type sand won't do. After rinsing well (according to the bag instructions), I just seeded the bed with a few cups of "live" sand from my existing tanks...

Good stuff that the goby, wrasses and sand-sifting starfish all like very much...
