Are phytoplankton and zooplankton shelf-stable? So for instance I’ve been dosing the Seachem brand for my sponges and scallops the expiration date is like over a year. Does that mean I’ve been dosing dead plankton and should be dosing something more refrigerated such as Reef Nutrition or AlgaeBarn?

Yes it's dead... been dead. Full of preserves and not your NaiNa's jelly ones. You need to start to think about starting your own phyto cultures. You do not have to by a fancy kit since you already spent your money. Just a few milk bottles, some corks, some rigid airline, air pump and a window sill. Some live starter. I get my phyto from here:
The amount you need to feed your tank is way more than a few ml. a day

True haha!

Preserved phyto is a compromise that provides lower nutritional quality in a more stable and thus cheaper, easier form.
