I was thinking about using this rubber hose from Sears to pump water from the garage to my tank in the living room for water changes.

Currently I'm using vinyl hose but I like that this one is black and won't grow algae due to light. Will this hose possibly leach anything that would harm my tank inhabitants?

The hose from Sears has a brass coupling which will corrode in saltwater quite quickly.

Also, if you look at the complete item details, you'll see the following warning:

Attention California Residents:

California's Proposition 65 entitles California consumers to special warnings for products that contain, or will expose a consumer, to chemicals known to the state of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm if above certain threshold levels. We care about our customer's safety and hope that the information below helps with your buying decision....

It looks like this hose is barely safe enough to water your lawn with. Don't use it for your aquarium.

Thanks. I was going to cut the brass off and use the barbed fittings on my camlocks. I guess this hose is a no go!

Everything and Anything sold for the most part is known to California to cause cancer.

Nice coming from a New Yorker. Rubber in saltwater easily leaches chemicals...cancer causing or not.

True. Ever drink from a hose sitting in the sun? lol

Agreed it would most likely leach chemicals.

On a side note, It is amazing for how strict NY is, that i can still buy stuff that has either that warning on it, or a Sticker that directly states "Not for Sale in California". Although I am sure there is stuff sold in other states that probably state the same for NY.

Look closely at the bottom portion of that box. WD-40 is MADE in California and we can buy it here. This particular case is not for sale in California because the individual cans do not carry the chemical warning required for California consumers. Many times manufacturers are hesitant to post this warning in other states unless required to do so by law. I guess that they are afraid of losing sales.
