Is santoprene reef safe?

It's washer material.

Yes, Santoprene is safe. I’d wash it first with warm soapy water.

I agree with the above the Santoprene is very hard to bond to. One of my tasks at a job in the 1980's was to find a good adhesive for Santoprene to metal bonding. it was a difficult challenge since Santoprene is pretty inert toward adhesives.
