Is Purigen the same as carbon? or is it a totally different product that does different things to carbon, Is the price difference between that and carbon worth the extra?

No there different, purigen is for basically nitrite and nitrate control, it removes nitrogenous components and also helps polish the water

Activated carbon removes organic pollutants that would otherwise build up and also helps with water clarity and odours etc

I use both, changing the carbon every 4 weeks and the purigen probably every 4-6 months went spent.

if you believe the marketing.....

Purigen is a synthetic polymer resin that helps in reduction of nitrates.

Carbon or GAC(granular activated carbon) removes toxins and tannins from the water.

2 totally different products, but purigen does do some of the things GAC does. Neither in my opinion can be exchanged for the other.

One bonus to purigen.... It can be regenerated, where carbon is use and throw away.

Thanks guys, I don't need nitrate reduction so will stick to carbon.
