My tank is new and has 0 phosphate and nitrate it's 2 months old. I have a hammer and a couple of corals and i noticed that when my nutrients went to 0 my coral didn't open anymore the moment i start dosing it's starting to recover. How's that theory is true that the ocean has 0 nitrate and phosphate if corals still need nutrients?

It has zero detectable level reefs are covered in Algea and giant coral colonies and other things consuming them as they become available.

Well it's not 0 in the ocean though it is extremely low in most areas... this is no theory. However a tank is a different scenario. When they truly hitting zero this is usually a sign of prolonged periods of no nutrients. In the ocean there are pretty much always nutrients of some sort available.

If you could replicate a scenario with constantly available food sources yet keep nutrients undetectable then that may work. Realistically that is not feasible generally...though that was the goal years ago when the ULNS craze occured.
