Is the NARC par meter...

If I am not mistaken, the NARC PAR meter, is actually Mike's PAR meter. You might want to give him a shout directly.

So I can confirm that the LEDs were too bright. Finally dropped a sps branch in and...now it's bleached...when it was in the lower half of my tank.

Lovely...as the lights go up.

out of curiosity what is your setup, and what where your readings. im thniking i have too much light now as well and would be interested in taking par readings if possible.

I know this is an old thread but I just got LEDs and wondered about using someone's PAR meter. My Seneye has a PAR meter but I don't know how accurate it is and wanted to cross check it against a meter that is known/believed to be accurate.

I heard that it is not easy to measure the intensity of LED with a PAR meter. However, the data in a recent article written by Dana Riddle shows that Apogee Quantum Sensor (the popular PAR meter in the hobby) does pretty well. Dr. Sanjay Joshi mentioned in one of his articles on LED fixtures that "My experience and data collected from various successful tanks shows that if light levels of approx 100 micromoles/m2/sec can be obtained at the bottom of the tank, then there will be enough light in the top 3/4th of the tank to grow most light loving SPS corals, while providing enough light at the bottom for other lower light corals."

Apogee's PAR meter gives you the reading in PPFD (micromole/m2/sec). I don't know what unit Seneye uses for expressing the light intensity or PAR.

With the LEDs at 40% blue and 20% white the PAR readings were significantly higher at the water line than they would have been with the 6 bulb T5 fixture.

Thanks for the link to that article. I am going to read it now.
