Is the Neptunes DOS too loud?

Hi all! I’m thinking of buying one but I’m concerned about the noise. How loud is it for just dosing? I’ve seen/heard it run during a water change and thought it was ungodly loud. My tank is in my theater room, so noise level is extremely important.

Hi there - when it's just doing small doses it's fine. I always arrange my AWC for when I typically won't be in the fish/TV room/den, though, as I don't like the sound either - so I know why you mean. But I don't notice sound during dosing.

I would ask if you have an AFS? If you are OK with that, the DOS is no big deal. If the DOS is in a cabinet with doors you'll likely not hear it either. For me, it's the same noise level as my skimmer when it's going.

I have mines in the stand its not loud at all and you can control the dosing time too.

I have a Trident... is it louder than a Trident?

Yes it’s definitely louder than a trident. It also depends on what you’re dosing. Dosing small volumes slowly is relatively quiet. Larger volumes faster are louder.

Two BRS 50ml pumps are half the price and significantly more quiet for AWC. The dos is a great pump but the noise level starts to get annoying above 500ml a day.

AWC is real loud but small regular doses you’ll be fine.

DOS is a dream for water changes, but it’s noisy. Mines outside in an insulated shed and I can still hear the wining so I tend to do water changes overnight as we can’t here it then or when I’m out.

I haven’t used it for dosing, and although you might be ok, It would annoy me to be honest, having the noise interference in my room when I like quiet

If your just using it for dosing I would get something else, I use a Kamoer for example, but if you need it for water changes then it’s just a matter of locating and using it to your needs as it works very well for this.
