Is there a Beginner Corals list?

If you were populating your very first reef tank, what would be your first five(5) corals purchased to grow for ease of care, color variations and overall visual appeal?

GSP, Hammer, Zoa, Duncan, Xenia

I would start with some of the more hearty corals- leathers, Zoas, palys, mushrooms, green star polyp etc.

There’s a lot to choose from! Many great looking ones from each listed above. Hope this helps.

I started with Duncans. I had them for several months before I added anything else. Hammer was my second coral. After that I can't really remember the order in which I added them, because I started adding 3 or 4 corals at a time. Duncans are a good coral to start with though.

I started with a leather toadstool (amazing growth btw) some zenia and a hammer coral. Very forgiving in terms of water quality

Welcome! Green star polyp was my first, although it does spread like grass but I was ok with that because I wanted something with some flow.
Duncan, encrusting hydnophora, hammers beyond that.
