Is there a conversion for switching to sodium hydroxide?

I'm switching from BRS Soda Ash (sodium carbonate) to sodium hydroxide. In my search I've found "Add 283 grams of sodium hydroxide to 1 gallon of fresh water" so I know the ratio for my next batch.

What I'm missing is a conversion from a sodium carbonate solution to a sodium hydroxide solution. If I currently dose 200ml of sodium carbonate solution daily, what is a good starting point for the sodium hydroxide solution? Is it also 200ml daily?

Thanks in advance, I've been searching so long I'm fatigued by the research. :)

Both of the recipes (soda ash and sodium hydroxide) have the same potency alk wise. It’s just the pH which will be double in the hydroxide (which is good).

Just keep the same dosage. Alk consumption might increase with the elevated pH.

That's exactly that information I was looking for. Thank you

I'm thinking about also using sodium hydroxide, in my case to raise pH to around 8.3. My water parameters are all within normal range, with the exception of pH, which hovers between 7.6 - 7.8. What I can't seem to find on the forums is the actual dosing amount, as I have a 20 gallon tank. At 283 grams per gallon concentration, are you dosing 200ml per day? What size tank do you have, and is this switch working for you? Thank you.

No one should give you a dosing amount. It needs to be based on the alk demand of your tank, as I noted in the other thread.

Understood. I will test my Alk for several weeks first to determine tank consumption. Also, as another member suggested I calibrate my Hanna pH tester using known standards. Thanks Randy!
