Is there a downside to using human CP?

Looks like getting CP prescription from a vet is a pain, and difficult. Much easier for me to get a human prescription for 250 mg capsules! I travel a lot to places where malaria is common.

I'm looking to do this as part of a quarantine procedure on new fish. Is using the human version a bad idea? What's the downside?

There’s no downside, possibly upside, you can use it.

Quality control for human meds is much more stringent and you’ll be sure of purity. I’ve done that in the past. I have yet to find a vet willing to prescribe it...

I believe a 250mg pill is equivalent to about 150mg of CP and the rest might be binders so might have to adjust accordingly.

Are you sure about that? I would have thought that the FDA and medical community would have a problem with a 250 mg dose only having 150 mg of active ingredient in it. How much would be in a 500 mg tablet? 500 mg is the recommended daily dose for preventative malaria prescriptions.
