well, most clams would do fine in an established tank with proper lighting and good parameters, regardless if you are beginner or not :xd:
in my opinion, if you can keep sps coral alive and healthy, you can keep whatever clam that you can reasonably house in your tank. Squamosa and Gigas get HUGE, crocea stay relatively small, and maximas/derasas get fairly large.
squamosa, gigas, & derasa clams can do fine with moderate lighting, while the crocea/maxima need halides/T5's
