Just wondering if a fancy goldfish would do good in a 30g. I assume it will, but just wanted to get some opinions.

As long as it is not a common, comet or shubunkin, all 3 i would classify as 100g minimum.

Personally i would not put in smaller than a 55g any fancy. They might not be as active as the formers but are still active fish. They also produce a lot of waste stay on top of water quality. And do not deal with quick rises in temperature well, that 30g if kept without air conditioning or periods without air conditioning might require a chiller.

The oldest of my current goldfish is about 6(ive lost some to predation occasionally). Started as a 1/2 fry is now a foot long. My shubunkin is about 9” long.

The tank is going in my basement, which is relatively cold. And I don’t want to buy a new filter so I’m throwing on a 60gallon canister that someone gave me.

I would recommend a bare bottom, will save you a lot of headache.

Make sure the filter puts out a descent flow, ime some canisters outlet flow is like a mist.
Might need to add a powerhead.

Also depending on which breed you choose i would keep on hand a bag of peas in your freezer. Every few feedings Thaw a couple and feed, will help keep his digestive system healthy

If develops any parasites, they are fine with salt treatments, do not use heat in any disease treatment.
