I know that consistency with alk is important and natural seawater is 8.4 but what affect will alk at 10 have on a mixed reef tank?

Mine has been at 10 for a while and my tank seems fine but a few sps arent as bright as they were when i first got them.

Its hard to have high alk and low nutrints. ESP in high light. On the bright side you could feed more.

Wow been doing the reefing game for a while and had no idea alk affected nutrients. I believe my alk is high from kasswasher as ato and reefcrystals as my weekly water change.

I haven't had any problems with my SPS I did lose a few Chalice frags so maybe this was part of the reason. Going to run multiple tests these next few weeks and see what my Alk is at each test. Then start to lower it by dropped back on Kalkwasher and increasing calcium dosing... or I should say start calcium dosing.

Does anyone else keep higher alk? Or does everyone try to keep the 8.4 I hear so often?

Also I guess I can ask what do others do who does Kalkwasher to keep alk lower?

Here is tank pic so u can see i am getting ok color and some growth. Just wondering how hard i should try to get my alk down or is 10ish going to be ok.

If 10 dkh works for your system then stick with it. Don't change what works for your system because other people run lower alkalinity. Each and every tank is a different ecosystem with different requirements. By the way your tank looks great.
