Is there a Vortech size/model comparable to the gyre 250?

Hello, I have had 2, 250 gyres on my standard 180 . Hands down the best flow Iv'e ever had. However they give me probs all the time. Burned out bushings etc, now one side on one gyre won't even spin any more. I'd like to research these Vortechs . I'm looking for comparable(doesn't have to be so much flow) & ease of control. I admit the gyre controller perplexes me. Hey. I'm old ! I also need to add this is a Fish only tank so far at least. thanks !

gonna give myself a bump here. I'm not sure what I want to do . One gyre works fine the other one as said. only one side works any more. Should I just buy another gyre? or buy a vortech & see how I like it, leaving the one working gyre ?

I love the flow from my gyres, I hate taking them apart every month or so to clean them. Not too mention they never go back together perfect like they did from the factory. I haven't broken them yet, somehow, but the flow is reduced significant when they get dirty at all. I've been thinking about vortechs or tunze to take over, but then I clean my gyres and love the flow again.

One gyre pump is way cheaper than an mp40, but sounds like you're already almost there in your mind to try them out! Lot's of people love them and I'm sure they are easier to maintain!

I have 3 mp40’s and an mp10 on my 80 gallon and absolutely love the different flow patterns and how strong they are.
I have a BB tank with sps and there is no dead spot with all the flow.
Maintenance is easy, I take them out every 3 months. Soak them in vinegar with baking soda and give them a light scrub. That’s it

Go with an MP40 or MP60 if you can afford it. The amount of control you have on these pumps with Reeflink is outstanding.

I have two on a 40. Only setback is the price.

2x mp40’s 1x mp10 love my mps never used anything else so I can’t say how they compare to the gyre. When I first got them many years ago the selling point for me was no wires coming out the tank anymore. The flow and patterns are great and the control you have of you flow is the best.

I have never run a gyre, so cannot speak to comparability. I do run a lot of the vortech pumps, all three sizes. When I had a 180, I used one MP40 on each end. I ultimately felt that the flow was not adequate so I replaced one of the 40s with a MP60. My 180 was a reef tank, so perhaps for a FOWLR dual 40's would suffice. Vortech are not maintenance free either. If you follow the instructions and clean the wet-sides regularly they are long lasting.

The MP40 flows about 1000gph less and the MP60 flows about 1200gph more. MP60 seems like a better choice on a six foot tank (I have a pair of MP40s on a four foot tank and they're perfect but they dont have the grunt to push water across a six foot tank).

Some functions arent very intuitive and I have to refer back to the manual occasionally for them (pulse width in NTM for instance) but the rest are simple (I use Reefcrest). If the 60s are out of your price range, I'd find a different solution than Vortech honestly.

The ability to master/slave multiple vortechs together wirelessly is super nice. I have a 40 and 10 on my 60 cube which I run on the tidal swell mode. About once an hour the tidal mode lines up just right and produces a standing wave for about 5-10 minutes.

Plus I have a Radion as my light. So when it comes time to feed, all I do is press the two buttons on the light and it signals all vortech pumps to go into feed mode. Super handy imo. Obviously you can see I've bought into Echotech pretty hard and am pretty bias lol. But all I hear about Gyre pumps is the maintenance sucks and parts wear out a lot... I think you should try them.

Here is the full vortech manual. Lots of pictures and graphs to help you program them. You can also program more advanced/custom schedules if you had a reeflink. I just don't have one, so no advice to give out on that, but it's an option.

The vortech controllers are a bit clunky, but ultimately they work fine. If you have an apex, or plan one, the addition of a WXM module makes controlling them really easy.
