I was doing some thinking... Always a dangerous thing, I know. But, heat speeds up ich's life cycle right? So, for instance, your fish has ich. Oh no! Put him in QT and start a copper treatment, to treat that ich. Well... Say we're doing a standard 30 day Copper treatment. If we cranked up the heat, wouldn't it cause the ich to go through they're stages faster, causing them to be killed by the copper faster as they go through the free floating stage?

Would this make QT faster, and more efficient? I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on this, just something I was wondering about that I'd never heard about doing before.

Turning up the heat only works for freshwater ich. The only effect of temp on SW ich is if the temp is low it will slow it down more. The Burgess study showed no effect on SW ich at I believe 94 degrees

Agree with @Brett newell

Raising temp won't have much impact on the cycle. It's also dangerous to elevate the temperature in the presence of copper and lower the oxygenation in the aquarium. Meds deplete oxygen. So lower temps and extra surface agitation are key when medicating.

Ah ok. Makes sense.

Would it affect any other diseases?

I dont think it will have any effect. And with other issues you can run into with QT like salinity, ammonia, PH, and med dosing. Why add having a bigger issue with aeration? My qt is permanent and I keep it around 76.

It is an excellent forum for sure
