I've started my first saltwater aquarium last march. I've made all the newbie mistakes you can think of. Then I've lost all my fishes to velvet. After a fallow period (three months), I've started again introducing new fishes (following QT). I've started with two clowns, then two chromis. In QT, the two chromis were frisky and well, but since I've introduced then in the DT, they've stop eating, stayed at the bottom or hiding, and died today. All my parameters are ok. Is it normal to lose fishes for no apparent reason ?

Are the clowns fine?

Alive and well. That's why I'm lost.
I'm no fish and disease expert, but I'd say a better place to post about this would be in the fish and disease treatment and diagnosis forum

it's also helpful to make your title specific regarding your problem. "Green chromis mysteriously dead" would be a good title. I know you're probably upset (I would be too), and the title "Is there hope?" may reflect how you feel, but making the title more specific and to the point will attract the attention of people who have the knowledge to help you with your specific problem. Good luck, and yes there is hope!

Sorry for the confusion. Good idea.

How long did you QT the chromis?

How long did it take for the chromis to stop eating?

It's not relevant to the chromis, but FWIW, smarter people than me recommend that your mag, calc and alk all be either low together or high together.
Keeping all 3 on the same side of their ranges promotes better coral growth.

Hope the clowns still look good.

Were the chromis or clowns bigger?

The biggest question I have is what did you do during the QT period?

i am a huge fan of treating my fish even if i dont see anything wrong with them.

stray voltage is a thing, but probably wouldnt kill your fish.

other possibilities include air fresheners or other chemicals.

Good suggestions. I admit to using candles and air fresheners but spay just a bit and steer a wide birth of tank(s).

No issues. But I do agree if some freshener or cleaning chemicals could make contact with the water. Do you clean the outer tank glass with anything?
